In 1996 Valuable People was asked to assist in rebuilding the
management team for Colonial Williamsburg Hospitality
Properties, Inc. A new Executive Vice President of hospitality
operations had been appointed and challenged with the task of
turning a complex, failing asset into a solid profit center.
The properties (four hotels, four historic taverns and three
golf courses) were tires and generally perceived as lagging
in their competitive set.
Valuable People was charged with finding individuals who were
committed and skilled turn-around specialists who would
have the vision and experience to lead the properties
back to profitability and to rebuild the reputation.
What were the missing pieces?
Colonial Williamsburg needed two General managers, a
Group Financial Controller, a Vice President of Sales
and Marketing, a Director of Quality Assurance and an
Executive Housekeeper.
All assignments were successfully completed and this
produced a $6 million profit turnaround. As a result
of this outstanding achievement the Board of Directors
approved a $105 million renovation and refurbishment
of the hospitality properties.
